Welcome

Illustration copyright Lauren Child 1999 reproduced with the kind permission of Orchard BooksThis site supports Schools Library Services and school librarians in England and helps them assert the importance of their role and the significance of the school library.

It is in the first place designed for Schools Library Services and those librarians who are co-ordinating advocacy activities across a LEA during the Campaign. They will find case studies and supporting material. There is a separate area for individual school librarians who wish to participate in the Campaign - please click here.

The Department for Education and Skills (DfES) working with the Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals (CILIP), the Association of Senior Children's and Education Librarians (ASCEL) and the School Library Association (SLA) are supporting the advocacy of school libraries during the school year of 2003/4 with the publication and the promotion of a special brochure; "School Libraries Making a Difference" as part of an advocacy campaign. This is the campaign website. It provides strategies, arguments, facts and figures to support the campaign.

Over 80% of English LEAs are already subscribed to the promotion through their Schools Library Service. To find out more about what is happening in your area contact your local Schools Library Service.
